Why is it always the ones who look the most innocent who turn out to be the most controversial? This is a growing trend found not just in everyday life, but also in the entertainment world. So many of the cute celebrities we remember from the early 2000s are now turning out to be not so innocent after all. What is making these young stars so trashy? Is it the fame that gets to their heads after years, making them feel like they can do anything they want, without any consequences? Or is it just their personality? Do entertainers naturally have a tendency to be more free and “open?”

In most cases, it’s the girls who go from being innocent little Disney princesses to outrageous young women who have no problem showing off insane amounts of skin in public. But males are guilty of this too. There are a ton of boys who started out as cute Disney stars, and emerged later as violent wrecks with substance abuse issues. Many of these celebs are forced to go into rehab, and it’s really a sad sight. What is the entertainment industry doing to these children? Do girls in this industry feel like they have to reveal their bodies in order to be successful? If so, this is a worrying development indeed. Not least because there are millions, if not billions, of young girls who look up to these stars as idols.

But sometimes, there’s nothing wrong with acting a little bit trashy, and one thing’s for sure– not many people complain when an ex-Disney starlet decides to “let loose” and show us just how adventurous she has become.

15. Ariel Winter

Starting off our list is one girl you were probably all expecting: Ariel Winter. This girl isn’t even 20 years old yet, but she’s already making quite a name for herself– although maybe not in a good way. She has attracted what some would call the wrong type of media attention after wearing some seriously skimpy and revealing outfits to red carpet events. This is made even more controversial by the fact that Ariel Winter’s movies are often geared towards children. Some are questioning her status as a role model. And it’s easy to forget that Ariel Winter was a child herself not too long ago– a cute, innocent one at that, who starred in multiple Disney movies and TV shows.

Her own estranged mother is disapproving of her revealing outfits, saying, “I would not do that. She needs to grow up. I would tell her to dress properly, be the beautiful person she is. I feel sad that she feels the need to expose herself when it’s not necessary. Ariel is smart, beautiful and talented. She is a legitimate actress. She does not need to do this. She is beautiful with her clothes on.”

14. Vanessa Hudgens

Another Disney youngster who has been showing off her true colors in recent years is Vanessa Hudgens. For the better part of the early 2000’s, she was the picture of innocence, appearing in a wide range of shows and movies geared primarily towards children. But somewhere along the line, something clicked in Vanessa’s head and caused her to start behaving very differently. She was one of many girls who appeared in the movie Spring Breakers, and many of her fans were totally amazed that a girl like Vanessa would be involved in such a project. One thing’s for sure, we’ll never look at her the same way ever again.

There’s also the fact that her private pictures got leaked, and when hackers released the photos from her iCloud, eyebrows raised even further. She was seriously being a very naughty girl indeed, sending revealing out to some lucky guy out there. Some say that Vanessa Hudgens was a cute girl that went bad, but one has to wonder if she was really this naughty behind closed doors the whole time.

13. Miley Cyrus

What kind of article would this be if we didn’t include Miley Cyrus? She’s pretty much the iconic and most famous “good girl gone bad,” at least in this current generation. People couldn’t believe their eyes when Miley strutted out to the stage at those VMAs a few years ago. And everyone’s jaws collectively dropped to the floor when she started twerking in an extremely suggestive manner. That was the beginning of a complete transformation for Miley Cyrus. Things only got crazier from that moment. She began to do drugs on stage, and perform in various states of undress.

This is a far cry from how Miley Cyrus got her start in the entertainment industry– as a young, innocent child star that parents deemed okay for their own children to look up to and idolize. But the same cannot be said for Miley’s current image. She’s admitted that she has bipolar disorder, so that might explain her drastic change of personality and image. It’s worth mentioning that recently Miley Cyrus seems to have cooled down a little bit, and now seems to be much more conservative. She also got back together with her ex-boyfriend, Liam Hemsworth.

12. Hilary Duff

You might be surprised that Hilary Duff is even on this list. After all, she keeps it pretty clean for the most part. In fact, out of all the Disney girls on this list, she’s probably the most respectable. Sure, she’s taken some pretty racy photos in the past, but who hasn’t in this day and age? Having sexy pictures on the internet just seems to go with the territory of being a female celebrity these days. They know s*x sells, and they use it to their advantage. You can hardly blame them for that. Hilary Duff was of course on the Disney channel and was admired and loved by many people, both young and old. True, her style did get a little more risqué and revealing as she got older, but I think we can chalk that down the normal process of a young girl exploring her s*xuality.

So why is she even on this list? She actually caused a social media uproar from politically correct onlookers when she showed up at a Halloween party dressed like a Native American. I guess Hillary didn’t get the memo about controversial costumes, and she was blasted for cultural appropriation of Native American values. Some say this would make her the trashiest of all the girls on this list.

11. Danielle Panabaker

This is one girl who has definitely turned away from the family-friendly zone of Disney. Although Danielle Panabaker started off as a Disney star, she’s really moved on in a big way. Nowadays, she’s photographed wearing very little in magazines, as well as showing off plenty of skin on shows like Mad Men. She was in some scandalous scenes in this show, and although it doesn’t make her trashy, it certainly shows that she isn’t the innocent young Disney star we remember from the early 2000s. And she probably doesn’t even want to be that girl anymore, as everyone needs to progress as a person and try new things. It’s clear that Disney can’t offer a huge amount of opportunities to adventurous girls like Panabaker.

We’re sure to see a lot more of this girl in the coming years, and she currently has a recurring role on the CW show, The Flash. I don’t think anyone is complaining that this girl started to show off more and more skin, and everyone who is shaming her for this should be ashamed themselves.

10. Bella Thorne

This girl has been appearing in television shows and movies from a very young age, and we have seen this young artist progress from a cute child star to a full-bodied woman. And it’s easy to see by checking Bella Thorne‘s Instagram and Snapchat that she is in fact a full-grown woman. Many of these sexy pics show exposed lots of skin. It’s clear that this girl isn’t trying to be cute and innocent anymore. And honestly, I don’t think anyone is really complaining. She also came out as bisexual on Twitter, and although this definitely does not make her a trashy person, it shows that she’s very comfortable with her s*xuality, and doesn’t care what people think of her.

She’s really come a long way since her days starring in Disney productions like Shake It Up, and something tells me that we haven’t seen the end of this amazing young girl’s transformation. Although she’s starting to get older, she’s still only 20 years old, meaning she has a whole lifetime of amazing performances ahead of her. And something tells me that she’s only going to get more risqué in the future.

9. Rihanna

I know many fans out there will hate me for including Rihanna on this list, but it has to be done. I’ll give her one thing though – if anyone’s capable of somehow making trashiness look “cute,” it’s Rihanna. Even when she’s flaunting what seems like her entire body in transparent and mesh outfits during red carpet events and in public, she manages to do it in a very innocent, nonchalant way. It’s almost as if she doesn’t even know what she’s doing – or, more likely, she knows exactly what she’s showing off, and simply doesn’t care.

One thing’s for sure though – she’s come a long way since that sweet little 16-year-old girl from Barbados was introduced to the western world. Although people might have loved her for her innocence and youth at first, they became completely enthralled by her once she started to make her image more revealing and risque (which incidentally wasn’t long after she arrived on the scene). There’s no denying some people would call Rihanna trashy, but she does it with style.

8. Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was the picture-perfect Disney princess for many years. Even before Disney, she was everyone’s favorite cute little girl due to her role in Barney & Friends. Right around the time she was starting out her music career, she started to become a lot more adventurous in her image and behavior. Her loyal fans from her Disney days couldn’t believe their eyes when she bared a ton of skin for V Magazine.

She also starred in the controversial film Spring Breakers, which featured strong s*xual themes, not to mention the fact that Selena and her co-stars were essentially wearing very little clothing the entire time. There were also very explicit scenes, which shocked her fans even more.

7. Kylie Jenner

It’s hard to even accept that the Kylie Jenner back from the early 2000s is the same one as we see now. If you look back at her pictures from this era, she looks like an entirely different person. One thing that immediately hits you is the look of pure innocence on this young girl’s face. But when you look at her now, that feeling is decidedly absent. It’s clear that Kylie’s body has changed a lot over the years, although she denies getting any surgery done. She does admit to getting lip fillers done, though, and that is fairly obvious to see.

But it’s not just about her image. She was also caught texting with her sisters during a moment of silence held for the slain teen Michael Brown during an event. Then there was the fact that she allegedly started dating Tyga when she was technically underage.

6. Debby Ryan

Debby Ryan is another girl you might remember from her Disney days, although she’s changed quite a bit since her cute, innocent beginnings as a Disney girl. Before Disney, she appeared in a few episodes of Barney & Friends. She later appeared in Disney productions like Wizards of Waverly Place, and The Suite Life On Deck. Since getting older, Debby Ryan has started to get more mature roles as well as getting involved in music. Even though she’s Christian, her image has started to get more and more s*xualized– especially her Instagram page.

But it’s not just her image that is getting more risqué. In 2016, she was arrested after drunk driving and crashing her Mercedes. She was charged with a DUI. This is what she had to say for herself: “Over the last few days I have had the chance to think about my actions, and I wish I had used better judgement. I recognize that I am a role model and have always worked hard to set a good example for my millions of fans. I am so sorry to disappoint everyone.”

5. Shia LaBeouf

Another celebrity who has really fallen off the horse recently is Shia LaBeouf. It’s a sad day when you see what a lifetime of fame can do to a star. Shia LaBeouf seems like he’s not sure what he wants to do with his life. One day he’s shooting movies, the next he’s patrolling the streets, getting into fights with random strangers over their political affiliations. He was arrested in DC after he set up an “art installation,” which he dubbed “He Will Not Divide Us.” The Project consisted of a webcam installed in a wall, and he encouraged people to come out and chant “He Will Not Divide Us” into the camera lens.

To this day, not many people can say with certainty exactly what Shia was trying to achieve with this project. Instead of welcoming in people with diverse points of views, he became violent towards them, threatening them and eventually getting himself arrested after the police were called. In truth, this is only one short chapter in the continuous decline of his career, and he seems like a completely different person than the cute Nickelodeon kid we all came to know and love back in the day.

4. Kelli Burglund

Another girl that you might be familiar with if you’re a Disney fan is Kelli Berglund. If you still think she’s innocent, just check out her Instagram. It’s clear that this girl is no longer family friendly! But she wasn’t always this way. She was one of the stars of the Disney show Lab Rats, as well as Disney’s original TV movie, How To Build A Better Boy. Like so many Disney stars of her era, she has departed from the conservative mold of Disney girls in a big way. Her image is starting to become more and more scandalous, and this is worrisome to her fans from Disney, because she’s still continuing to star in a lot of these movies and shows. One has to wonder what kind of example she’s setting for the children who watch these shows.

But it’s not all about her image. Last year, around the time that Debby Ryan crashed her Mercedes, Kelli Berglund tried to sneak into a restricted section of the Coachella Music Festival. She showed her ID, but the security quickly saw that it was a fake ID! The cops actually put her in handcuffs, and she was lucky to get off with just a citation, and not an actual charge.

3. Zac Efron

Zac Efron is another star that belongs on this list. Back when Disney’s High School Musical came out, he instantly became the guy of every young girl’s dreams. He seemed so perfect, so innocent, and so charming. You could see why Disney picked him to play such a leading role, as he exudes a special kind of persona that drove women wild. No one could ever predict back then that this seemingly perfect guy would run into so many troubles in his later life, but that’s exactly what happened. Today, this celeb is a very different person to the one Disney introduced us to.

Stardom took its toll on this celebrity in a big way, and after a few years, he was forced to check himself into rehab for addiction to hard drugs. This was back in 2013, when he was reportedly also suffering from serious alcoholism. Around this time, he also got in a fight with a homeless man, and police had to get involved. He has been sober for many years now (reportedly), but you get the feeling that Zac is just a ticking time bomb of controversy, waiting to go off.

2. Taylor Momsen

Another girl who has really started to show off some skin in recent years is Taylor Momsen. If you can believe it, this girl started in the entertainment industry at the tender age of 2. She was a model. She says that she was forced into it by her parents, although in retrospect, this gave her tons of opportunities later in life. She was a cute kid growing up, and often got cast in commercials. But her real chance came when starred as Cindy Lou in How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Yes, that was her. She then starred in a few Disney productions, before landing a role on the show Gossip Girl. After that, she kind of broke free and started to become a lot more risqué in her image, starting a rock group called The Pretty Reckless.

She actually bared a lot of skin on one of her album covers recently, and this is what she had to say about it: “We’re all naked when we’re born. If you find it shocking, that’s your own perception.”

Adrienne Bailon is another celebrity who has gone through some pretty major transformations since the early 2000s. She started out as a cute, innocent Disney girl, much like Hillary Duff. She was part of an all-girl music group called the Cheetah Girls back in the day. This group was featured heavily on the Disney channel, and little girls used to look up to her. She seemed like a respectable girl that just about everyone could look up to and admire. But things have a way of changing, and nowadays this hot girl is looked at in a very different light.

She’s now best known for her scandalous photos that surfaced, and she seems to be embracing this new “bad girl” image. She was also featured on Growing Up With The Kardashians, and actually dated Rob Kardashian. While this doesn’t make her trashy, it doesn’t exactly make her classy either.
